Why indeed?
Well, if I were looking for someone to help me to find my way to meeting some important goals, I would need to feel assured that they have the ability to hear what I say and to understand me. They would need to leave their own opinions at the door, be aware of their own prejudices and to use their expertise to put me in the driving seat. They would need to be reflective regarding their own practise, have a fair amount of experience supporting people and sufficient qualifications that ensure they apply essentials in their work - such as confidentiality, data protection and honesty.
I have supported people for 30 years in the private, voluntary, statutory and not-for profit sector using strengths-based techniques to bring about positive change. I have undertaken levels 1 and 2 Counselling and Listening Skills under the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). I have qualifications that include teaching as well as Health & Social Care, and I was an approved trainer of outcome-based interventions in Sheffield under Self-Directed Support.
I have undertaken a variety of roles including Director, Manager, Teacher, Practitioner, Key-worker, and Volunteer. I have experience in running my own business in the Social Sector, supporting disabled people in Social Care, and I have (being over 50 years of age) a range of lived experiences.
I am also DBS-checked (enhanced).
So, in returning to how you would choose a life coach - if I were looking for one - I would see who best matched my requirements, and I would have a chat with them.
